"This is the assistant principal; we have a serious situation here." He ran to the garage and took out his old motorcycle, grabbing the torn hand grips and a straddling the torn seat. He watched Emily get into the truck and waved as he rode out of the driveway. He made a quick right and opened the throttle. He wasted no time in getting to the school, running stop signs and dodging cars. He parked his bike and ran inside. The assistant principal grabbed him, "Here, quickly." They ran through the hallway and into the classroom. The principal pointed at a crack in two pipes, in the still unfinished wall. The janitor laughed. "Is that the leak?" The principal nodded as the janitor pulled out a lighter. "What are you doing?" The principal tried to grab his hand, as he lit the lighter. Nothing. "See that pipe? It's made of copper. Natural gas reacts funny to copper, this is for hot water. If there had been a gas leak, you would have noticed the smell. They add chemicals to it to make it smell, so you can tell you have a leak. Ok?" The principal sat down on the floor, "I am sorry, really." |
